AKPS aka Anterior Knee Pain Syndrome is one of the common Knee problems of this world & especially our country India where people squat, sit cross-legged for long hours putting their knees on extra pressure but are unable to find enough time for regular knee care exercises.
Anterior knee pain is typically felt around the knee cap bone aka “Patella” mostly on knee bending activities, climbing stairs etc. It’s a dull aching pain felt throughout the day & ultimately leading to quadriceps fatigue which in turn results in subjective weakness of the knee / instability.
Most common cause : Hamstring & Quadriceps (esp. Rectus femoris) tightness due to lack of regular stretching exercises & excessive use & fatigue of these group of muscles.
Treatment : Regular Stretching exercises of Hamstrings, Quadriceps, Hip & calf group of muscles.
